Five Tips on What to Wear to Your Engagement Session

Figuring out what to wear to your engagement session shouldn’t be hard or stressful. I certainly don’t want you tearing your hair out at the thought. I want you to feel comfortable and confident on the shoot.

An engagement session is the perfect way for us to get to know each other. I like to see how you are together, and every couple like to see how I work (it really is great practice, I promise!). I’ve found the couples that have done an engagement session with me relax a lot more on their wedding day. They feel a lot more comfortable in front of the camera, and everyone enjoys it that much more. It should be fun!

Five Tips on What to Wear to Your Engagement Session

I’ve been asked so much about what to wear to your engagement session that I wanted to write a helpful blog post. So whether you’re booking your session with me right now or we’re doing it next year, I hope this blog post helps you out. Please don’t get stressed about this, enjoy the lead up to your wedding!

Wear Something You Love

So my first tip on what to wear to your engagement session is to wear something you love, yep you heard me. A piece of clothing that you love and feel yourself in. Whether it’s your favourite pair of Converse, or those jeans you just love. Seriously choose something you love to wear.

Dress for Comfort

Number two, is to wear something comfortable. So my engagement sessions are relaxed and we usually go for a walk in a woodland area or on the beach front for example. So wearing clothing and shoes that are comfortable will make the session less painful, I wouldn’t suggest high heels for instance.

Think of the Season

Yep, you heard right, think about the location and time of year. If it’s warm, dress in your favourite Summer dress. Autumn? Well then layer up and dress according to the time of year.

Something Old

What I mean by this is that you don’t want to try a new style or outfit on the day. I don’t want you uncomfortable, pulling at something and not feeling like yourself. Stick to what you know. This is about celebrating you both as a couple and that includes celebrating your authentic self.

Dress However You Want To

I’ve read so many articles over the years about outfits that compliment each other. And to stick to neutral colours as you’ll stand out that much more. And yes this can be true, if your session takes place in a woodland area, neutral colours can look great. But hey, I’m all about it being about you both. I’d prefer to concentrate on the chemistry, creating connection and fun between you both. So simply dress however you want to.

What do you think? Do you have any top tips? I’d love to hear them comment below and share for others to hear. I’m Michelle, you can read more about me here. I love what I do, thanks for being part of it all.
